Meet Capri

Your guide to the heart of great American food.
Capri S. Cafaro is a radio host, TV personality, cookbook author and cultural reporter. Previously to her media and storytelling career, Capri was an elected official serving as a state senator in her native Ohio for a decade prior to her term ending due to mandated limits. During her tenure as a lawmaker, she also held the position of Minority Leader for almost 4 years.

For five years, Capri was a regular guest host and provided commentary on Fox News, the #1 rated cable news network In the United States. Capri was also a regular co-host on Outnumbered and appeared several times as a co-host on The Five, the top rated show in key demos, with viewership anywhere from 1 to 2.8 million per show. She has guest anchored Bulls and Bears on the Fox Business Network, and been invited onto international networks, including in the UK ITV’s Good Morning Britain, BBC News & Sky News, CBC Canada, and Newsnight Africa in South Africa.

Capri was also in front of the camera as a brand ambassador for UK-based international retailer Karen Millen’s Women Who Can campaign and in front of a mic sharing her music knowledge as a guest DJ on SiriusXM’s Classic Vinyl and Ozzy’s Boneyard.

Capri’s lifelong passion for food and storytelling has led to a shift away from news and towards cooking programming and lifestyle talk shows. Capri is host and creator of America the Bountiful, an original food & travel series exploring the regional food traditions of America’s heartland, showing that America’s Heartland is not just flyover country but a rich cornucopia of cultures inspiring surprisingly diverse flavors on plates across the nation. The show was inspired in part by Capri’s degree in American Studies as well her time as an elected official when she served on the Senate Agriculture Committee and co-authored Ohio’s tourism promotion law.

In 2020, Capri’s debut cookbook, United We Eat, received international acclaim and features 50 recipes that tell America’s unique story, demonstrating how food can unite and bring people together. As part of her virtual book tour, Capri appeared on a variety of television cooking segments on stations across North America from Portland, Ore., to Tampa, Fla., as well as on Canada’s #1 morning show Breakfast Television and Canada’s #1 daytime talk show The Social. In November 2020, Capri and her cookbook were recognized at the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Thanksgiving event, alongside acclaimed chef Jose Andreas. United We Eat is available for international distribution.

Capri is the host of Eat Your Heartland Out, a Taste Awards nominated podcast and radio show about the intersection of food and culture in the American Midwest. The show is produced by the Heritage Radio Network, a leader in culinary audio storytelling and distributed on the Public Radio Exchange (PRX), which provides content to public radio affiliates across the United States. The show has aired on select NPR affiliates across the Midwest, and can be found every Sunday at 7pm E on Sirius XM Channel 147/Rural Radio.

Following her commitment to American storytelling, Capri is a folkways reporter for Inside Appalachia, a radio program produced by West Virginia Public Media and aired on NPR affiliates across the Appalachian region. She is an on-air contributor to Great Lakes Now from Detroit Public Television and provides written content for the show’s online articles. Capri is a culinary creator on Kittch, the first live streaming community of chefs and creatives providing interactive culinary content. Capri is also an instructor with the Courageous Cooking School, providing online culinary education and live instruction.

Capri earned an undergraduate degree in American Studies at age 19 from Stanford University, a Master’s degree from Georgetown University with a concentration in International Studies and a Master’s in Social Work from The Ohio State University.
